Wine Training – Wine Glasses

Select the right glasses when tasting wine or serving it. It is best to use a clear glass so you can look at the color of the wine. Choose a glass with a long stem and a round shape so you can easily swirl the wine. You should avoid using glasses that can contain more than twenty two ounces.

Use the right glass for your wine. White wines should go in narrow glasses to prevent excess warm air from penetrating their surface. Conversely, red wines benefit from a wide glass with a generous mouth. The rich flavors of red wines will awaken as the wine warms up to room temperature and is exposed to air.

Do not be a wine snob when it comes to new wines. You may turn up your nose to white wine when it is offered to you, only because you had one or two bad glasses the first time around. Not all wines are created equal. You will find wines to suit your taste throughout the wine rainbow.

Toasts are quite common at social gatherings where wine is involved. This will result in the delightful tradition of clinking glasses. Clinking your glass the wrong way can shatter it into pieces. To avoid a mishap, angle your glass just a bit so the bell of your glass is aligned with your partner, but the rim points away from their glass.

When drinking red wine, the proper temperature is room temperature. If your wine is not at that temperature when you are going to drink it, you can warm the wine and glasses in hot water for a bit, then dry them off before pouring. This will ensure that your wine will be at the proper temperature when drinking.

Look not for expensive wine glasses, instead go for an affordable option. It’s not uncommon for wine glasses to be broken, and inexpensive glasses mean that if that happens, you won’t be out of a lot of money. Lots of stores sell glasses, with large discounters being especially good sources. You do not want to feel bad about breaking a glass that accompanies something you are trying to enjoy.

Don’t fill wine glasses more than half way. Anyone who is interested in tasting the wine to its fullest may want to swirl with it in the glass. When you’ve poured too much, swirling can be a chore and even lead to some messy spills and stains! The half-way point is the proper mark to hit for this reason.

As you were previously advised, the art of drinking wine has been around for a long time. It can be hard to find the best wine for your tastes, but when you are persistent and patient, it is possible. Start by using the tips from this article when you go shopping for a bottle of wine.
